Police say 65 people have been killed after a roof collapsed during a wedding celebration in northern Afghanistan.

The spokesman for the provincial police, Jawad Bashart, says 40 people also were wounded in Wednesday's tragedy in Baghlan province. He says the house was overcrowded and was made of mud bricks.

He says most of the dead were women who were celebrating separately from the men on the top floor. Twelve children also died.
