Gang members fire on two officers with high-powered weapon
A man shot to death late Tuesday on the South Side of Chicago became the city's 200th homicide of the year.
Police responded to a call of shots fired around 10:15 p.m. found the victim, identified by the Chicago Sun-Times as 31-year-old Jesse Woods, lying on the sidewalk.
Woods had been shot in the back and head, and was later pronounced dead at the scene, the Sun-Times reported.

The fatal shooting marks the 200th homicide in the city so far this year, according to records compiled by the Chicago-Sun Times. Last year, when Chicago saw a total of 781 homicides, the city hit 200 homicides two days earlier on May 7, according to the newspaper.
The grim mark came after a weekend in which 10 people were shot, two of them killed, when suspected gang members opened fire on a group attending a memorial on Sunday for another man killed earlier in the day on the city's Southwest Side.

On Monday, Chicago police issued a bulletin to warn its officers about gangs armed with high-powered weapons in the wake of the shootings.
Chicago has been plagued for years by gang-related violence that has led to a sharp rise in homicides in a few of its poorest neighborhoods.
