At a cost of $1.6 billion in private funds, The New Meadowlands Stadium, home of the New York Giants and Jets, is one of the most expensive stadiums ever built. The stadium seats 82,500 football fans and sports five premium lounges and nearly 100 premium suites spanning over 130,000 square feet. In a partnership with the US Environmental Protection Agency, the stadium has become one of the greenest venues in sports.
Host teams Jets and Giants christened the new stadium at a preseason game on August 16. Then, on September 13, the Jets played the Baltimore Ravens in a season opener. The stadium will host Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014.
