An 18-year-old was hospitalized in critical condition after suffering a seizure and collapsing during her high school graduation.

Melissa Hunter was taken to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after collapsing Wednesday during the ceremony at Franklin Central High School. Hunter was listed in critical condition Friday.

Friend Jamie Coop said doctors placed her in a drug-induced coma and performed surgery to relieve pressure on her brain.

A fire department medic who was at the graduation ceremony assisted when Hunter collapsed at the school on the south side of Indianapolis. He said he had never seen this happen to an 18-year-old in his 20 years on the job.

Friends held a fundraiser for Hunter and her family on Thursday.
