A UK woman gave birth to a boy and girl just minutes apart, yet the siblings are not twins, according to a report in the Daily Mail.

Thomas and Harriet Mullineux were actually conceived three weeks apart.

Their mother Charlotte Mullineux had been pregnant with twins when she miscarried one of them at seven weeks. But two weeks later she discovered she was carrying another fetus — conceived separately and still growing in her womb.

"I was disappointed I had lost one of them but was more concerned about the other one," the 28-year-old said. "Those two weeks were agony for us. When I went back I was astonished when they said there was another baby.

"It turned out the blob that was on my last scan picture had grown into a baby."

The surviving twin and the new baby were born last May and, after a health scare, are now home and doing well.
