URGENT MONDAY BLOG UPDATE: CBS Slammed in Internal Investigation

Today, heads are rolling at CBS News (search), as a 200+ page report has just been released about Memogate, the now-infamous Dan Rather scandal. As you remember, in the waning days of the presidential campaign, Rather aired on "60 Minutes II" a bunch of bogus documents about then- Lt. George W. Bush's service in the Air National Guard.

Now four people at CBS are out the door — from the producer who did the document segment, up to senior news executives. Exempt are Dan Rather (search) and CBS News President Andrew Heyward.

There may yet be more stories to emerge from the tsunami, but now other topics are back on the radar screen — including the War on Terror.

Monday on “DaySide” I'll be interviewing a senior Saudi official — they want to talk about their efforts to help tsunami victims, but it's also a good time to ask them about their own progress in fighting terror. It was only weeks ago that the U.S. consulate in Jeddah (search) was attacked, resulting in bloody carnage. Many of you have been great about e-mailing questions to me so I can pose them to the Saudis, so I'm asking for you to do so again. Another story we're tracking is that of an Islamic cleric who the feds quietly deported from the U.S. during the holidays. Wagdy Ghoneim (search) is his name, and he had been preaching for years in California mosques and gatherings. Ghoneim is accused of spreading hate and encouraging suicide bombings from the safety of southern California. His lawyer and several Islamic groups claim that's a lie, that he would never preach hate or encourage terrorism. Ghoneim's lawyer is set to be on “DaySide” with me on Monday, along with a representative of the Investigative Project (search) (a terrorism investigation group that has been researching Ghoneim). Feel free to chime in on this debate as well.

Another item, non-terror related: a pregnant woman in Spokane, Washington has just seen her divorce from an abusive husband revoked. The husband is not the biological father of the baby. Shawnna Hughes (search), who is on welfare, was granted the divorce by a judge at first, but then when she revealed she was pregnant the judge called the divorce illegal and revoked it. Here's why: Because Shawnna is on welfare, the state of Washington objected to the divorce because officials feel it might leave the state unable to pursue a father for repayment of welfare money used for child support.

Now, several people could be accused of using poor judgment here — including Shawnna. But in the end, if the husband (who has been convicted of beating Shawnna before) gets to remain legally married to her, is it possible there could be more beatings that endanger the baby's life?
