U.S. military officials say a woman wearing a bomb-laden vest has turned herself in to Iraqi police rather than blow herself up.

The would-be suicide bomber surrendered Sunday in the city of Baqouba. U.S. officials say she led police to a second suicide vest, and that a 13-year-old girl was arrested at that time.

The woman and the girl are in Iraqi police custody.

Baqouba is the capital of the volatile Diyala province and an insurgent stronghold. Women have increasingly been recruited by insurgents to carry out attacks because it's easier for them to evade security checks.
