GEORGETOWN, Texas -- The father of the first U.S. serviceman killed by enemy fire in Afghanistan says the death of Usama bin Laden helps ensure his son didn't die in vain.
Will Chapman said Monday from his Texas home that he was "elated" upon finding out that American forces killed the Al Qaeda leader. During an ambush in January 2002, Sgt. 1st Class Nathan Ross Chapman became the first U.S. soldier killed by enemy fire in the war in Afghanistan.
Will Chapman didn't want to go so far as to say that the killing of bin Laden avenges his son's death. But he added that Nathan wouldn't be satisfied until the entire world is rid of terrorism.
Nathan Ross Chapman lived in San Antonio. He was 31, with a wife and two children.
