James Michael McAdoo had 19 points and 10 rebounds to help No. 12 North Carolina beat UNC Pembroke 82-63 in an exhibition game Friday night.

Freshman Kennedy Meeks scored 11 points for the Tar Heels, who played without leading scorer P.J. Hairston and Leslie McDonald due to NCAA eligibility concerns. Sophomore J.P. Tokoto also sat out after playing two summer-league games without filing proper paperwork.

UNC led by 24 points before halftime, then used a 12-0 run to turn away a push that saw the Division II Braves get as close as 59-53 on Quamain Rose's 3-pointer with about 9 minutes left.

Rose finished with 21 points and hit four second-half 3s.

UNC committed 23 turnovers, but took a 56-34 rebounding advantage. Brice Johnson also had 10 rebounds, while freshman point guard Nate Britt had six assists and five steals.

The Tar Heels open the regular season next Friday night against Oakland.
