COLUMBIA, S.C. – Ben Carhart had two hits and an RBI and Jake Boyd got the final two outs with the go-ahead run at the plate in Stetson's 5-3 victory over North Carolina State at the Columbia Regional on Sunday.
Stetson (43-18) will need to defeat defending national champion South Carolina twice to advance to the super regional series. The Wolfpack end the season at 35-27.
The Hatters rallied from five runs down to beat North Carolina State on Friday and had to survive the Wolfpack's try at a comeback of its own in the ninth. Brett Williams's grounder was mishandled by shortstop Mark Jones to make it 5-3 with two on.
That's when Boyd struck out designated hitter Pratt Maynard and got catcher Danny Canela on a flyout to deep center.
