Authorities say a small, twin-engine plane has crashed in the Hudson River below Albany.

No details about the size of the plane or the number of people on board are immediately available. Divers and other rescue crews were on the water and a Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman says she's on her way to the scene Thursday afternoon.

A U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson says the small, green plane went down near Germantown in Columbia County at about 4:30 p.m.

Witnesses tell local media outlets the plane broke up and sank on impact.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office says it can't immediately provide any information.

FAA spokeswoman Arlene Salacs says the identity and type of plane isn't initially available.

The Coast Guard has called off plans to send a cutter from nearby Saugerties.

Germantown is 40 miles southeast of Albany.
