The Pittsburgh Penguins signed rugged forward Tom Sestito to a professional tryout contract on Wednesday.

General manager Jim Rutherford announced the move to bring in the 6-foot-5, 228-pound Sestito, who has collected 10 goals, eight assists and 432 penalty minutes in 137 career games.

Sestito had an assist in three contests with the Vancouver Canucks last season before being dismissed from their American Hockey League team in February. The 27-year-old led the NHL by recording 213 penalty minutes with the Canucks in 2013-14.

Sestito, who has also played with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Philadelphia Flyers, has notched 48 goals, 65 assists and 887 penalty minutes in 256 career contests in the AHL.
