Authorities in central Florida say a man is dead and a pregnant woman was airlifted to a hospital following a shooting that involved Volusia County Sheriff's deputies.

Investigators say the shooting happened Monday night after deputies pulled over a pickup truck west of Daytona Beach. The woman was driving the vehicle and the man was a passenger.

According to deputies, the man fired shots as they tried to talk to the couple. The deputies returned fire. The woman was hit in the shoulder by one of three bullets fired. Her condition was not immediately known.

The deputies weren't injured. They're on administration leave as the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigates.

Officials haven't released the names of the dead man, the woman or the deputies. The race of those involved also isn't known.
