Rome, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) - A 15th-minute goal from Miralem Pjanic was enough as Roma maintained second place with a 1-0 win over Napoli at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday.

Roma stays one point clear of rivals Lazio with the win, while Napoli stays in sixth place but falls eight points back of Lazio for the final Champions League place as the club's winless streak has now reached five games.

The home side had its best spell of play in the opening 15 minutes and the club took advantage as Alessandro Florenzi got to the end line and pulled the ball back for Pjanic to slot into the bottom corner of the net.

Dries Mertens created a number of first-half chances for Napoli as the visitors began to take charge of the contest, but Roma goalkeeper Morgan De Sanctis stood tall in goal to keep Napoli out.

De Sanctis was called into action again after the break and he needed to react quickly to tip a shot from Manolo Gabbiadini around the post.

Gabbiadini tested De Sanctis again, but once more the netminder was up to the task, preserving three points for the hosts.

Juventus remained 14 points clear at the top of the league with a 2-0 victory over Empoli as Carlos Tevez scored in the 43rd minute before Roberto Pereyra wrapped up the win with a goal in the 90th minute.

Lazio secured its seventh straight victory on Saturday by topping Cagliari, 3-1, behind second-half goals from Lucas Biglia and Marco Parolo to stay within one point of Roma, while Fiorentina used second-half goals from Alessandro Diamanti and Mohamed Salah to beat Sampdoria, 2-0, in a battle of top-five teams.

Torino edged Atalanta, 2-1, with goals from Fabio Quagliarella and Kamil Glik, Cyril Thereau scored the equalizer in the 68th minute to help Udinese to a 1-1 draw at Genoa, Luca Toni scored a goal in each half as Hellas Verona and Cesena played to a 3-3 draw, Inter Milan and Parma traded first half goals in a 1-1 draw, AC Milan claimed a 2-1 win at Palermo thanks to a goal from Jeremy Menez in the 83rd minute, while Sassuolo's Domenico Berardi converted a penalty kick in the 23rd minute to help his side to a 1-0 win over Chievo.
