Poland's Justice Minister Cezary Grabarczyk has resigned over doubts concerning the legality of his gun permit.

He is the first minister to leave the Cabinet of Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz, which took office in September and will be submitted to voter assessment in parliamentary elections scheduled in the fall.

Last week Grabarczyk was questioned by prosecutors over his license for a personal gun that he obtained from a police unit in Lodz that is under investigation on suspicion its officers issued permits to VIPs without proper checks.

Grabarczyk said he is innocent, but was resigning because there "should be no doubts concerning the justice minister."

Kopacz has accepted the resignation, handed in by Grabarczyk late Wednesday.
